SAVE Spain Activities

In April 2009 Beatriz Abril Alegre organized a formal meeting at the Asociación 11-M in Madrid with ten leading members of the organisation who explained their involvement and shared their personal stories. In addition to that, joint activities on a local level were discussed.

The potential of the group is their commitment to target terrorism by standing up and speaking out against violent extremism. They are important stake holders since they make it very clear that they do not hold the Muslim population accountable for the criminal acts of the perpetrators. Their persistent lobbying activities led to the unique Solidarity Law implemented in the Spanish judiciary after the attacks.

The SAVE documentary "Journeys through Darkness" will be released with Spanish subtitles on the occasion of the official launch of SAVE Spain in Madrid in the fall. The launch will be accompanied by a press briefing. Beatriz is part of this film in which she explains how she is affected by terrorism.

The documentary will serve for a SAVE campaign  “Young Voices against Violent Extremism” addressing the diverse young Spanish community from community centers to universities. The film will be a key tool for Beatriz and her SAVE partners to highlight the need to counter the ideologies of extremism on a civil society level.
