SAVE Austria Project team

At age four, Azra Dizdarevic and her family fled the war and left her hometown of Bijeljina, Bosnia to come to Austria. Today she studies law at the University of Vienna and works on various projects for Women without Borders. Most recently, she was actively involved in two research projects that deal with how young Muslims and non-Muslims in Austria live together.

Azra received Austrian citizenship in 2001, and in response to the question of whether she is Austrian or Bosnian, Azra says, “I can only smile and say: I am a world citizen. Everyone wants to belong to a group and to describe herself in a specific way, to find her place in the world. I can understand that, but sometimes it seems that you only have a choice between two extremes. In doing so we frequently prevent ourselves from experiencing new things."
