Women without Borders just completed two research projects about the daily realities of young Muslim men and women in Austria. In-depth discussion with both Muslim and non-Muslim youth confirmed what many in Austria already sensed: even in multicultural environments such as school, there is a gaping divide between different ethnic and religious communities.
This lack of interaction can promote distrust and prejudice on all sides and contribute to aggressive reactions.
SAVE Austria seeks to promote bridge building and intercultural dialogue between all segments of society to promote understanding of the “other.” By encouraging women to confidently participate and contribute to their societies and operate as a visible force for positive change, SAVE Austria helps youth find their place in a transforming society. We must enable them to formulate their own solutions with which they can identify, so that they can help to shape an integrated, productive, and peaceful Europe in the future.
Austria is an ideal location for people of various ethnic, religious, political, and economic backgrounds to meet, discuss, and strategize for change. As the seat of major international organizations (e.g. UN, OPEC) and as a neutral country, Austria provides an unrivalled platform for positive intercultural exchange.
