Women without Borders/SAVE screened the SAVE film “Journeys through Darkness” at two premier English universities in late October to emphasize the role students must play in challenging extremist ideologies. On October 19th, Dr. Edit Schlaffer and her team held a film screening and discussion at Oxford University, where the subsequent Q&A session drew thoughtful parallels between extremism in the UK and in East Asia.
On October 29th, the team screened the film at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), in conjunction with the SOAS Film Society and the SOAS Middle East Society. The engaged audience took particular interest in relating their own experiences with terrorism to the film’s storylines, and prompted an extensive conversation on undermining the allure of extremism.
Women without Borders/SAVE will screen “Journeys through Darkness” at further UK universities in November 2009.
