Position Announcement

Women without Borders / SAVE is looking for a Program and Communications Officer to start in September

Women without Borders is looking for motivated, enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in gender and security issues to join its small Vienna-based team. This is a full-time position.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):
• Detailed research for articles, research projects, and other publications.
• Data collection on the topic of women and their role in counter-terrorism.
• Managing the organization’s website, blogging and social media presence.
• Helping to organize events including press conferences, panel presentations, research trips and workshops.
• Handling independent writing assignments including concept notes, articles, presentations, reports and background papers.
• Proofreading and editing of articles and other written material.
• Providing administrative support and handling correspondence.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Academic credentials and degree in International Relations, Political Science, Women’s Studies or related field.
• Good knowledge of and interest in gender-related development issues (including theory and international instruments) and issues related to violent extremism, intercultural understanding, peace and security.
• 2+ year(s) related work experience, preferably in the non-profit sector or international organizations.
• Proven ability to write journalistic articles for a specific audience.
• Outstanding research and writing skills, with demonstrated research experience.
• Experience in writing grant applications, concept notes and background papers.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Email, InDesign and Photoshop as well as excellent knowledge of campaigning through social networks and media including Facebook, Twitter, Blogging, Google+ and more.
• Native English speaker.
• Proficiency in Arabic, German and other foreign language(s) highly desirable.
• EU citizenship.

• Ability to work independently when required but also to contribute effectively to teamwork.
• Creative thinker with ability to generate ideas that help to promote the organization’s public profile and advance its program of activities.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work to deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, especially in working with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. Demonstrated experience of working in a diverse environment.
• Ability to communicate persuasively both orally and in writing, including presenting arguments and ideas clearly and concisely in a variety of styles (eg academic, journalistic).
• Flexibility in time management; ability to work outside of normal office hours when required.
